Questions About Your Ceremony
What are the legal requirements for getting married
in the Virgin Islands?
For island weddings, proof of citizenship and a 24-hour minimum stay is
required; however, there is no blood test needed. Couples who have been
married before need only bring an original copy of a divorce or death certificate.
Couples must file marriage documents prior to arrival on St. Croix, giving
the court at least eight working days to process them. To facilitate arrangements,
call 340-778-9750 and ask for the Marriage and Family Division.
What are our options for ceremony sites?
Our two most popular sites are the 18th Century Sugar Mill, and our palm
tree-lined Mermaid Beach. Both are quintessential 'Caribbean', and very
charming and picturesque. See Weddings for photographs of ceremony sites.

What times of day are best for weddings?
The most popular time for weddings is at sunset, which provides a spectacular
background for the ceremony - and wedding photos! Wedding receptions are
normally scheduled for 6-10pm.
What religious denomination is the officiate?
Most ministers that we work with are non-denominational and ordained through
the Universal Life Church. We also use the services of a Baptist minister
upon request.
What are our choices for vows?
We provide a selection of vows to choose from, or you may provide your own.
Do you offer a traditional African wedding ceremony?
We offer the traditional "jump the boom" ceremony. The bride and
groom leap over a brightly decorated broom, which we provide, symbolizing
the coming together of a man and woman in one house.
What is the minimum and maximum number of
guests allowed?
There is no minimum number of guests. Our largest venue for ceremonies and
receptions can accommodate 125 guests.
What are our options for music?
We can arrange for almost any style of live music you prefer. Prices vary
per artist. Most couples choose steel pan performers for one hour during the
ceremony, with bands for receptions. Bands must stop playing at 10:00 p.m.
What are the options for photographers/photo packages?
We refer our guests to several different highly qualified and professional
photographers. Prices vary per photographer and package.
Jump The Broom ceremony
Can we arrange for a videographer?
We offer professional videography services through a third-party.
Do you offer a wedding rehearsal?
Since ceremonies at The Buccaneer tend to be short, we usually forgo a formal
rehearsal with the minister, and instead offer a walk-through with the bride,
groom, and wedding party on the evening prior to the wedding, or early on
the day of the wedding. If you prefer a rehearsal with the minister, one can
be arranged for an additional cost of approximately $100.
Are gratuities included?
Gratuities for all services are at your discretion with the exception of food
and beverage functions.

Questions About Your Reception
What are the options for reception locations?
Our two most popular reception sites are our open-air, beachside Mermaid restaurant,
and our air-conditioned Brass Parrot. For intimate groups of 12 or less, our
18th Century Sugar Mill offers an unparalleled romantic atmosphere.
What room/table decorations are available?
The Buccaneer provides white linens, low candles and local flowers. If you
require more elaborate decorations, we can offer decorating options at additional
cost.
