The Buccaneer has welcomed players to its courts since the 1950’s.
The Buccaneer features eight Laykold courts, two lit for night play. Tennis
magazine has called The Buccaneer “the best tennis resort in the Virgin Islands”.
A fully-stocked pro shop provides top-of-the-line equipment and stringing services. The site of
several annual tournaments appropriate for guests’ participation, The Buccaneer
specializes in pairing up players for enjoyable matches year ‘round. Weekly round robins,
and doubles drills for ladies, cardio clinics and other seasonal clinics are scheduled
for guests.

Tennis Director Don deWilde has been there 27 years, far longer than any resort pro anywhere
in the islands, and a longevity that seems appropriate at a family run resort. Not only
does Buccaneer tennis pro Don deWilde know tennis, he knows the game of most of the
Buccaneer's repeat guests and local players. After all, he's been the resort's tennis pro for more than 20 years.
A graduate of the College of William and Mary in Virginia, Don bounced around a few Caribbean resorts before finding his home on the sunny shores of St. Croix. Don feels two things make tennis at The Buccaneer special: the opportunity to play outdoors 365 days a year in the spectacular setting, and the clientele.
"I know every single player on the island. A lot of lasting friendships are made
between guests and locals. Ultimately, it's the camaraderie that guests respond to the most,
as they meet tennis-playing locals who come to the courts for both good competition

Junior Tennis Camps at The Buccaneer
Bring the family to The Buccaneer St Croix this August for great tennis for kids.
Don Dewilde, resident pro at The Buccaneer, is providing a limited opportunity for 16 children to participate in the week-long clinics, at a cost of $110 per child.
Junior beginners ages seven to twelve years old play 8 am to 11 am daily August 3-7, 2009. Junior intermediate players eight to fourteen years old play 8 am to 11 am daily August 10-14, 2009.
